Tourism is the major industry in Puerto Peñasco. Accommodations are incredible. Most of the lodging are vacation rentals such as homes and condos that are rented on a nightly basis. The result is a phenomenal value and lots of bang for the buck when staying in one of these seaside villas, condos or homes. Puerto Peñasco has a large English-speaking community so getting around without knowing Spanish is not an issue.
Fresh seafood is brought in daily and is on every restaurant menu, as well as Mexican specialties. You can buy fresh shrimp and seafood to take home at fish markets along the ocean front in the Old Port. Some of them have small outdoor restaurants.
Shopping is plentiful. There are grocery stores, fruit stands, and of course, lots of souvenir shops.
Puerto Peñasco has beautiful public beaches. The community has many sandy beaches in most areas but also has some very unique rocky shorelines around the Old Port (also known as the Malicon) and Whale Hill. The best swimming is from May through October. Boating, sunbathing, and water sports are the popular activities.
Many sand sport enthusiasts are drawn to Puerto Peñasco because riding ATVs and quads on the city streets is permitted as long as you obey the traffic laws. The unique desert/beachfront environment creates a plethora of sand dunes and miles of riding trails for those who want to spend their day in their sand toys.
Puerto Peñasco operates on a dual currency system so there is no need to convert your dollars into pesos since all businesses use U.S. dollars and Mexican pesos.
This beach-front community is so close to US, it makes fishing, jet-skiing, sailing or just putting your toes in the sand easy and affordable! It is for this reason that Puerto Peñasco is becoming Arizona’s #1 weekend destination.
