Getting ready to vacation at Laguna Shores Resort in Rocky Point, Mexico? Get packed and come on down and while you’re here treat yourself to a little pampering at Gloria’s Beauty Salon, a Rocky Point staple since 1969.
Vacation is all about relaxing so why not get some accessories for that tan of yours…treat yourself to a haircut, some color, a manicure, pedicure, new set of nails or a massage. Gloria’s offers these services plus so many more. And if you are looking for beauty supplies from nail files to polish to a curling iron or name brand shampoo, they have that too.
Gloria Ortega, owner of Sala de Belleza Gloria, located on Ave. Constitucion just south of Super Ley Supermarket and Coppel Department Store, has been serving customers since before Rocky Point even had paved streets let alone Sam’s Club and department stores. Not only has she been running her own salon, she has also trained hundreds of talented young men and women how to style hair and apply make-up at her Beauty School. Many of her students come to work for her in the salon after their graduation while others open their own salons or move onto other cities to perfect what Gloria has taught them. Gloria’s has always been a family owned and operated business where her son and husband often stock supplies, handle money and take appointments and her daughter cuts hair, does weaves and even applies permanent make-up. In fact, I was one of her first customers to get permanent eyeliner.
Gloria and all of her stylists pay incredible attention to detail and most are bilingual. While many of my friends make appointments with their favorite stylist, I always like to book with Gloria herself since she is the first one who cut my hair way back in the mid-90s when it was down past my bottom. She kept asking me if I was sure she wanted me to cut it all off because it was so long. Since that first cut she has cut my hair numerous times and into numerous shapes and she has also made me a brunette and a redhead though nowadays I just have her add a couple highlights and cut my hair into the style I like at the moment. Gloria does keep up on all the latest trends in the U.S., Mexico and all over the world and attends many beauty product shows and performs in many hair cutting and make-up beauty contests, some of which have been right here in Rocky Point.
During my 17 years living in Rocky Point, Mexico I have been to a few other stylists and colorists and I always end up back at Gloria’s either asking her to, “please fix my hair or just chop it off and let’s start over”. I can say I have learned my lesson and stick with Gloria. In fact I am terribly overdue for a cut, color and pedicure.
Gloria’s Beauty Salon is not just for women, it is also for men and I see many American, Canadian and Mexican men getting their hair trimmed, and even mani’s and pedi’s – and thank you men for doing so – we women very much appreciate it! Her salon even caters to children. Gloria’s is definitely the ultimate full service salon for men, women and children.
In addition to cuts, color and perms, they also offer shampoo and bow dry, blow-outs, highlights, hair extensions, manicures, pedicures, waxing, facials, permanent make-up (lips, eyebrows, eyelids, etc,), body massage, and acrylic nails and fills. I’m sure I have missed a few of their services as she is always adding more. And, like I said, they also have a fully stocked beauty supply so if you have forgotten your Paul Mitchell or Sebastian hair products then stop by and browse the salon’s complete line of shampoos, conditioners and all other kinds of goo for your hair. This goes for anything else “beauty” that you can think of – hairbrushes, make-up, bobby pins – you name it; I bet Gloria’s has it.
So, while relaxing on the beautiful beach at Laguna Shores Resort, give Gloria’s a call and schedule an appointment for yourself or your entire family. (I love getting a mani and pedi at the same time.) Gloria’s takes walk-ins and welcomes appointments – call locally at 383-5075. They are located at 101 Ave. Constitucion and are open Monday through Friday from 9AM to 8PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 9AM to 6PM. If you get a Spanish speaking person on the phone, they will get you an English speaking person to take your appointment or answer your question or you can say, “Tiene una cita disponible para un corte de pelo” (do you have an appointment available for a hair cut), though this might open up a whole can of worms with setting dates and times, but if you know even a little Spanish – go for it because I am sure everyone at Gloria’s knows a little bit of English.
