Dia de los Muertos is a day of celebration in Rocky Point, Mexico

Many may think that the “Day of the Dead” is a day of mourning, but it is actually a day of remembrance, honor and celebration. It is not the Mexican version of Halloween, but a serious day when family members gather to visit the graves of deceased children and adults and bring offerings and decorate their graves. Here in Rocky Point, the cemeteries are crowded with family and friends visiting the graves of those who have passed. The entire family gets together and spends the day decorating with flowers, cleaning and repairing graves, lighting candles, praying and offering or placing favorite items of the deceased. If you want to see this up close and personal stop by any cemetery in Rocky Point, or better yet, go with your local friends and spend the day with them. It will be an experience you will not forget and you will have a better understanding of just what these days mean.

Dia de los Muertos is a big celebration in many countries and in Mexico there are parades, parties, festivals and displays. Dia de los Muertos is probably the most well known, but there is also Dia de los Inocentes, which honors deceased children and infants. November 1st is also known as All Saints Day honoring all of the known and unknown Saints. November 2nd is also known as All Souls Day.

Next year you can plan on spending Halloween and Dia de los Muertos here at Laguna Shores Resort in Rocky Point, Mexico. Dress up for Halloween and attend any number of parties at local cantinas and join local friends for Dia de los Muertos. Laguna Shores Resort offers condos and homes for rent.
