Laguna Shores Oceanfront Resort in Rocky Point, Mexico is easy to find…just follow the signs

By Lannette Phipps

Since the installation of the permanent checkpoint just north of the glorieta (roundabout/traffic circle) many have missed the signs to Laguna Shores Oceanfront Resort. The highway is only 2-lanes, but the checkpoint can go to 2 or 3 lanes depending on how much traffic is coming into Rocky Point, Mexico. Most of the time there are semi trucks blocking the signs that tell you to turn right. The easiest way to remember how to get to Laguna Shores Resort is to merge (and turn) right after you have cleared the checkpoint. Now there are a couple of ways clearing the checkpoint can happen:

• You remain on the paved highway lane and wait for the cars in front of you to be inspected and then it’s your turn. In this case you will make an immediate right hand turn at the glorieta – a hard right. If you end up going around the circle just cross back over the highway and head straight – otherwise you will be going around and around in circles, which may be humorous to watch, but not so fun for you.

• You are directed to pull over onto the dirt shoulder. In this case just stay on the dirt shoulder and keep going straight. Go slow because there are some bumps. Put your right hand blinker on and when you get to the edge of the glorieta, and the end of the dirt, you will merge right.

Now that you have merged right onto the glorieta you will now be on what I call the “Ranchito Road” because my parents have a ranchito out there and that’s how we, and many others, refer to the road. I’m not actually sure if it has a name. Anyway, there are usually a couple of semi’s parked on the right side getting a snack or resting and up on your left will be a tire shop. If you do not see the tire shop…go back to bullet •1 or •2 or ask the officers at the checkpoint how to get to Laguna Shores Resort or the Coastal Highway. You keep on going down the “Ranchito Road” for a mile or two – or perhaps three and you will come to railroad tracks. (Note: Railroad tracks in Mexico usually do not have the arms that come down to prevent you from crossing the tracks – as is the case at the tracks you will cross.) Be sure there are no trains coming and then cross the railroad tracks. You will then make a right hand turn (going over the most annoying topes in Rocky Point!) at the stop sign. You will now be on the Coastal Highway 003 and Laguna Shores Resort arches will be on your left a couple miles down the highway.

Once you pass under the arches you are golden and can now begin to relax and enjoy your vacation – if you didn’t already once you crossed the border. The weather is great…more than great…it’s perfect so make your reservation online at www.lagunashoresresorts.com or call 1-800-513-1426 and come spend a weekend or a week at Laguna Shores Oceanfront Resort. See you soon!
