50th Year for the Cholla Children’s Christmas Party

The Cholla Children’s Christmas Party is now less than a month away. This event started over 50 years ago with donations from Cholla Bay residents and visitors as well as other generous donors. This Christmas Party is the only one that is held for Mexican families that live in Cholla Bay or have established strong ties to the community.

Cholla Bay is among one of the oldest established sections of Rocky Point, Mexico.  Weekend fishing shacks and boat houses used to line the bay, but most have given way to big, beautiful houses – or at least more modern abodes. It’s home to JJ’s Cantina as well as the Cholla Bay Sportsmen’s Club. Cholla Bay is the epitome of contrast and contradiction and it is a great place to spend the day or join in on the many events that take place at JJ’s Cantina and those in and around Cholla like the OBSC (Old Boys Social Club) Bash every April.

The children and families who are treated to this once a year event really look forward to the party, especially since times are still very difficult for them. This may be the only Christmas many of them have. If you would like to donate to this year’s party, please make your check payable to Nancy Schmidli (or CBSC if you prefer) and make a note that it is to be used for the Cholla Children’s Christmas Party. Mail your donation to: Nancy Schmidli, 10645 W. Connecticut Ave., Sun City, AZ 85351. Nancy Schmidli will be in Cholla Bay over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend so you can drop it off to her personally or you can put it in the donation box at Sally’s Café in Cholla – also known as Xochitl’s. Any monies that are left over after the party are given to the Cholla Bay families to help make their life a little easier.
