Laguna Shores Resort Kayaking and Natural Beauty in Rocky Point, Mexico

Laguna Shores Resort Kayaking and Natural Beauty in Rocky Point, Mexico

By Lannette Phipps

Sitting within Laguna Shores Resort 600+ acre development is a beautiful pristine estuary teeming with wildlife: the most visible being the variety of bird species. No doubt this is a big draw for bird lovers as well as nature lovers and photographers. But kayaking the estuary or the Sea of Cortez is a fun and adventurous outing for any kind of person who is interested in spending a wonderful day in the sun and possibly catching a glimpse of a whale breaching, spouting, or just cruising the Sea of Cortez.

The mouth of the estuary at Laguna Shores Resort branches out north of the pool and condo area, but the VP Condos were built in an arc that edges one of the lush inlet bays allowing for great views from every condo patio. And when the high tide is here and the inlet is full it is a wildlife extravaganza as well as a delight for the eyes. Sitting on your patio you get the pleasure of viewing a part of the estuary a few feet in front of you and just over the sand dunes lie the azure Sea of Cortez. I can’t think of a better place to enjoy the day…except on the beach at Laguna Shores, of course.

If you aren’t lucky enough to own property at Laguna Shores Resort (yet) you can still enjoy a wonderfully relaxing vacation through great promotions for first time visitors/renters and you can rent one of the homes or condos available. Laguna Shores Resort is all about enjoying what nature has to offer and then some. Nature is at its best here at the resort from the estuary to the yawning stretches of beaches. During high tide, a kayak is the best way to explore the Sea of Cortez and the estuary and Laguna Shores just happens to have them available for guest and owner use…for free. A kayak is the absolute best way to get up close and personal with the rich plant and animal life that call the estuary home. You are most likely to spot the common crab below and beautiful Heron’s among the dense brush. Many other birds migrate to the estuary such as  Common Loons, Snowy and Great Egrets, Great Blue and Green Herons, Black-necked Stilts, Black-bellied Plovers, Wilson’s Plovers, Snowy Plovers, American Oystercatchers, Long-billed Curlews, Willets, Sandpipers, Red Knots, Terns, Yellow-footed Gulls, Bonaparte’s Gulls and many more. You may even spot a coyote or two who take to foraging through the thick brush in search of snacks. In fact, walking on the beach at sunrise or dusk may also catch you a glimpse of these stealth creatures. I have had one or two share the beach with me. A little spooky at first, but then remember they are just as afraid of you. Most likely they are coming or going in search of food or go down to the ocean or in the estuary to lap up the salty sea water, which they seem to have adapted.

Walking the intertidal streams during low tide is fun, but will only get you so far so kayaking is a much better way to get around. Come around the new moon or full moon and you can have an entire week of kayaking wherever and whenever you want. Laguna Shores Resort natural beauty and exploration is topped off with other activities and amenities like 2 pools, one being a beautiful infinity edge 5,000 sq. ft. pool complete with palapa pool bar, built in chaise lounges and child’s wading pool. It sits right on the sandy beach and has to be maybe the 2nd best place to watch the sun set down over the Sea of Cortez – the first being from your condo patio. You can also bike around the resort and beyond, play some beach volleyball, tennis or basketball or enjoy the game room complete with billiards and table tennis. And there is a miniature golf course that runs alongside the estuary. Laguna Shores Resort has everything you need for a fantastic vacation in Rocky Point, Mexico.
