Rocky Point, Mexico is one of the hottest beach vacation destinations for Spring Breakers from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and other colleges within driving distance. If you have not been to Rocky Point, Mexico in a few years then you may not be aware that you will need your U.S. Passport or a Passport Card to re-enter the United States. Your driver’s license nor your birth certificate will be sufficient identification to get you back into the U.S.

Other than having the proper identification, the only other thing you will need besides your bathing suit is Mexican insurance for your vehicle if you are driving down to Rocky Point for Spring Break. Your current insurance is not recognized by Mexican Law so be sure to stop on your way to Rocky Point and purchase a policy on your vehicle. There are also some places you can do it online, but there are many places in Ajo, Arizona that you can get in and out of quickly and are legitimate insurance sellers. Mexican Law requires that you carry (at the very least) liability insurance, but if you cannot afford to replace your vehicle you may want to purchase full coverage. Be aware that if you are in an accident and your vehicle is totaled, the insurance company will only pay the lowest Blue Book amount so do not purchase insurance that exceeds that amount. The place where you purchase your insurance should be able to look up this amount for you. If you are in an accident in Mexico, you MUST call the police and make a police report. You then need to call your insurance adjuster and all will be settled from there. Do not be alarmed if you are asked to go to the police station – this is a normal practice. They usually keep the vehicle until they can confirm that restitution can be made. Your adjuster will handle everything, but be sure you get the police to the collision site right away. Even if the other car drives away or says not to call the police – you call the police. Do not pay any damages to anyone. That is what your insurance is for.

One other thing Spring Breakers need to do is watch their speed limit going through the border town of Sonoyta, Sonora, Mexico. The speed limits run between 20 and 40 kmh (kilometers per hour not miles per hour – look on your speedometer) and there will be cops with radar. Never pay a policeman on the spot of you have been speeding – demand that you go to the police station and get an official receipt – not one issued by the officer. We know you are excited to get your vacation started, but save the $20 or $40 USD and just slow down through Sonoyta. Think of how much beer and tacos $40 can buy!

The weather is great, the water is warm and Rocky Point, Mexico is awaiting your arrival.
